Basic Beer Brewing Equipment

Before you can begin to brew your own beer, you want to have the basic beer brewing equipment. For people that have never brewed beer before, it's a good idea to start slow and simple. Before you begin, the first and

most important piece of beer making equipment is the Brew Pot.

Before running off to buying one, look around the house first as you might already have one. The brew pot should be able to hold a minimum of three gallons of liquid.

The next thing you next is a Fermenter. For the average 5 gallon batch, the fermenter should hold at least 5 gallons. The fermenter needs to be this size in order to allow space for the foam that will form during the fermentation process.

A food grade 5 gallon bucket and lid is often used for the fermentation process. For example, restaurants receive their pickles in these 5 gallon buckets. You will also need an airlock for the fermenter. This allows the CO2 to vent while keeping the air from entering.

A Siphon Hose is needed to transfer the beer from the fermenter when it's ready to go. The siphon hose is used to avoid mixing air with the beer during transfer.

The next piece of beer brewing equipment is the Bottling Bucket. Bottling buckets and fermenters are similar, except there is a tap at the bottom of the bottling bucket. This allows you to fill the bottles directly. It also makes the entire process quicker, cleaner and more efficient.

Finally, Bottles and Caps to seal each bottle. Once you purchase bottles, you can reuse them for each batch of beer you brew in the future.

If you do not want to purchase an entire kit, you can buy each piece of equipment separately. This will be more expensive, but you will be able to buy each piece of beer brewing equipment yourself without having to take what's included in the kit.

Once you have all of the basic beer brewing equipment, read through the instruction fully so you understand how everything works before using it. You will minimize problems before they happen when you start brewing. Most equipment for brewing is relatively easy to use so you shouldn't have any problems.
